A medication used as an adjunct to diet to help lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in adult patients. It works by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver and decreasing the absorption of cholesterol from the intestine.
Indications:
- Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial) in adults not adequately controlled with statin alone.
- Treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) in adults.
- Substitution therapy in adults already controlled with concurrent rosuvastatin and ezetimibe to reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) or a history of acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
Main Active Ingredients:
- Rosuvastatin.
- Ezetimibe.
Precautions:
- Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to active ingredients or excipients.
- Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Use with caution in patients with liver disease, severe renal impairment, hypothyroidism, or a history of muscle disorders.
- Monitor liver function and creatine kinase (CK) levels during treatment.
Side Effects:
- Common: headache, dizziness, constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence, myalgia, fatigue.
- Liver enzyme increases (ALT/AST).
- Rare: rhabdomyolysis, severe muscle toxicity.
Drug–Drug Interactions:
- Contraindicated with ciclosporin.
- May interact with other medicines, such as ciclosporin, fibrates, protease inhibitors, and fusidic acid.
- Dose adjustments may be required when co-administered with other drugs that increase rosuvastatin exposure.
